Half Dome – Steadfast Against the Storm

I was going through some old images and came across this one. I liked the shot but it was a bit on the dreary side. It had never occurred to me to try it in B&W until now.

This was taken 2 years ago from Sentinel Dome in Yosemite. My wife and I were meeting a friend at the top and the weather was becoming increasingly bad. On the way up, there was rain. The rain turned to snow and then to hail. Thankfully lightning wasn’t included in that mix. We sat up there for about an hour, huddled up against a rock, waiting for some glimpse of Half Dome (or anything else at that point)

This clearing, about 15 minutes before sunset, lasted only a few minutes and the clouds were moving very fast. Shortly after this shot, the sky closed back up, the clouds moved in, visibility dropped to about 10 feet and it started to get dark. Because of that experience there is now a flashlight and compass permanently in my camera bag.

Cheers and Christmas wishes to all
